We are a collaborative group of Latinos from Chicago who find ourselves in places unknown to generations before us.

close to home.

when the violence hits so close to home it’s paralyzing.
every day it seems like another kid dies.
going to school, going to a party.
and we have to sit in our classrooms ignoring what is happening in this city.
until now, never having to look at the gunshot wounds,
never having to feel the impact of the bullets, the shells lain in front of the neighbor’s doors.

and it’s not because we live in the ghetto.
where college students mix with the gangbangers.
we shouldn’t be segregated and removed from this, think it’s a problem for the poor and the people of color, for the uneducated.
we need to take this opportunity to educate ourselves and everyone about the circumstances.
about life and death and everything in between.

how are we supposed to help these neighborhoods, this city when we’re afraid of anger, of stray bullets?
we need to have a conversation.
be free to move, to celebrate, to grieve.
